Happy Valentine's Day!Happy Valentine's Day!  How will you be spending Valentine's Day this year?  My husband and I will be celebrating Valentine's Day with friends this year.  Can you remember your first Valentine's Day gift?  I can.  My darling husband, Don, who was my fiancee at the time, had given me a box on which he had written in black crayon, Fannie Mae.  For those of you who may not be familiar with Fannie Mae, they used to have stores around Chicago that sold fine chocolates.  I LOVED their Pixies and still do!

Since the words Fannie Mae had been written in CRAYON, I immediately deduced that there were no fine chocolates in this box.  When I opened the box, I found a wonderful pair of leather gloves with thermal linings.  Don knew how my hands always suffered from the cold.  These gloves were a thoughtful gift that also showed my husband's wicked sense of humor.  FYI - Don and I were engaged on Ground Hog's day NOT Valentine's Day. :)

The fog just started rolling in a short while ago.  Late yesterday afternoon was foggy also.  It was nifty to see the fog out on the Gulf; not so nifty to be driving in it!

The Naples Board of Realtors released the 12-month ending January 2009 market statistics.  The Overall Market Statistics shows a 29% increase in pending sales from the 12-month ending period of January 2008 to January 2009.  Not surprisingly 39% of all the pending sales in this period were under $300,000.00.  The North Naples area lead the way with the number of pending sales.  There is roughly a 26 month inventory of active listings.

The Naples Daily News published an article the other day on the front page entitled, Home Price Bottom Not Here Yet. This article sites a report by Mood’s Economy.com that states that the Naples-Marco Island area ranks as the number one area in the U.S. for home prices to drop further. This report states that our area is to fall a total of 70% from the peak prices in 2006. They predicted that our area will reach its lowest prices in the last quarter of 2010.

No matter what the newspapers say, I myself have had a busy month.  What I have found is that if properties are priced properly and available to show, they will sell.  Not too long ago I had someone say to me that next year every buyer will be saying, "I should have bought in 2009."  I think that will especially be true with real estate close to the beach.

Do you want to live near the beach? Now may be the time to buy!

No matter where you are today, I hope you can be celebrating Valentine's Day with someone special to you!

Okay, I admit it.  After 13 years of living in the Sunshine State I have turned into a wuss when it comes to cold weather.  Today when I went out to gas up my car for my showing tomorrow, my hands turned into ice touching the metal handle of the gas nozzle.  It was only in the mid 50's!  I can remember pumping gas for myself up in Chicagoland freezing at the pump wearing gloves and here I was shivering in 50 degree weather.

Those of you who live up North will most likely chuckle at the thought of me wearing socks and sweats around the house today.  I ran outside to snap these photos around my subdivision so you can see how Florida takes a cold snap seriously.  Naples has a freeze watch in effect tonight.

Protecting flowers from the cold in Naples, FL

L'Ambiance in Pelican Bay readys itself for some cold weather!

Flowers keeping warm in Naples FL

Naples' overnight low could go to 28 degrees tonight inland.  The tomato and citrus growers are concerned about their crops and rightfully so.  I am sure they have been working all day to protect their crops.  No one wants to see these growers hurt by a frost.

Weather.com is predicting a high of 39 degrees at 9:00 AM tomorrow morning.  I will have to search through my closet for my winter coat and gloves so I will be prepared to show tomorrow at 9:30 AM.  I can not remember the last time I wore a winter coat in Naples let alone close toed shoes!  The question I face right now is will I be able to fit into any of my closed toes shoes and do any of my dress socks still have elastic that will actually hold my socks up?

Tonight will be the first time in a long time that we will turn on our heat.  Naples' average high temperature this time of year is 75 degrees.  This cold snap has reminded me of how glad I am that I live in Naples.  I have missed my family, friends, and certain restaurants in Chicago while living in Naples.  I have NOT missed cold weather!
