Frosted Window Panes in Naples Florida?
January 10th, 2010 1:30 PM

This is what happens in Naples, FL when the air outside is colder than the air inside your home:

Condensation on Sliders after cold night in Naples FL

Cold outside air vs warm inside air

Okay, so it is not frost but it IS major condensation from last night's cold outside air meeting glass that has been warmed by having the heat on in our condo.  My morning was spent wiping off this condensation from all the windows in our home.  What a great way to start off the day..........

The cold weather in Naples is the major topic of conversation lately.  Last night the temps dropped to 40 degrees.  Tonight Naples is predicted to drop to 32 degrees!  In the 13 years that I have lived here, I have never seen the weather so cold for so long.  It is actually quite refreshing for me to have the main topic of conversation shift from the lagging real estate market to the weather!

When the temperatures sunk in Downers Grove, IL, the home we owned there became a freezer.  I vividly remember buying foam insulation pads to place under our electric outlet covers so that cold air would not come through.  The pads did help the cold air leeching from the covers.  The pads could not help the frigid air streaming through the plug openings in the electrical receptacle. The air in our home would become so dry that I would boil water on the stove to get some moisture in the house.  This moisture would condensate on the inside of my windows in the kitchen and turn to frost.  These memories reinforce the reasons my husband and I moved to Naples.

No matter how cold the weather becomes in Naples, it is still warmer here then in most places up North.  In the last week, I have seen e-mail messages flying into my inbox from agents looking for places to rent for the month of February for their clients.  I have a feeling that February is going to be a busy month.  Is a February trip to Naples in store for you?

Weather in Naples Florida
January 6th, 2010 7:07 PM

Okay, I admit it.  I have turned into a complete Floridian weather light weight.  After 13 years of residence in Naples, Florida the weather the last few days have kept my teeth chattering.  We actually have had the heat on the last couple of nights in our home.

I was out showing condos on the beach this past Sunday.  The wind coming off the water chilled me to the bone.  I kept telling myself that while it was cold in Naples it was still COLDER in Chicago.

Years ago when I first started out in real estate in Berwyn, IL I was more concerned about fashion than practicality. After showing on a particular freezing night, I managed to frostbite several of my toes because the boots I wore were not water proof.  Any time when I showed in freezing weather after that night, I had to wear electric socks.  The heating element in the socks went under my toes and up my leg to keep my feet warm.  The boots I wore had to be several sizes larger then I normally wore so that I could fit the socks into the boots.  Needless to say, my fashion consciousness went down the toilet when I showed homes on freezing nights.  I took a great deal of teasing over those socks.

As I sit here typing this entry, dressed in sweats, I wish I still owned a pair of those electric socks!  I tore through my closet trying to find my slippers but I could not locate them.  Quite frankly, I can not even remember the last time I wore slippers.  Heck, I can't even remember the last time I wore closed toed shoes and socks that were not gym shoes!

The weather in Naples will get back to normal sooner or later.  Even though it has been cold, we have had tons of sunshine.   After 43 winters in Chicagoland, I am grateful for the sunshine in Naples.

Staying warm in the sunshine in Naples, FL!
